Explanation: The head of the Soviet secret police, Lavrentiy Beria, was a notorious rapist and pedophile. This was well-known to Stalin (himself not exactly free of such charges, having impregnated a 14-year old girl when he was in his 30s), who kept him in the trusted position anyway, even after hundreds of other officials were purged for minor reasons. When Stalin learned his daughter was alone with Beria, even, he gave immediate orders for an armed guard to retrieve her, and execute Beria on the spot if she seemed violated in any way (she was not, and Beria survived, presumably because even Beria knew molesting the dictator’s daughter would end badly).

This is the guy that could have succeeded Stalin instead of Kruschev? Fuck me
Weirdly enough, if he did, it may have resulted in a better deal for just one country - he basically offered to sell East Germany back to the Western bloc, lmao.
Trade offer :
Western Germany gets : United Germany 37 years early
Soviet Union gives : Soviet Epstein files 70 years early
what’s Kaganovich doing there, other than being a fanboy?
Purging internally
so he’s a cat basically?
