I built a new house last year and moved in this January. This is my first time living in a house that's air tight enough to have an air exchanger. Through the winter it was fine - I just left it run its own Eco mode and everything seemed good. I'm finding spring really frustrating though - most days are nice and warm and we open windows, most nights are cool and we close the windows. I don't like wasting electricity by running the air exchanger all day when the windows are open.

Hi, I used to monitor my Car Charging using a Shelly Plug S but now it's dead and I want to replace it. How do I swap it out so that it's continuing the work of it's predecessor? I want to have it neat.

I would like to start using floorplans/maps with various device actions on them. This means I need locally stored images, that can be seen over the network. I managed to upload images to HA, but as they need to be accessed with a token, I either need to refresh the token every day (no), or have an image with a long-lived token (also not a good idea).

I've been running Home Assistant for about a year now and always installed every update as soon as it's released and never had any issues at all.

I've got several Amcrest cameras connected through Frigate (running standalone) to HA but I'm not sure how to properly setup the camera card so that the 'thumbnail' shown on the dashboard cards refreshes every so often.

This isn't specifically Home Assistant, but so many people seem to be using Frigate with Home Assistant it feels close enough.

I recently setup my ZigBee network in Home Assistant, using a Conbee III with deConz on my Synology NAS.

I have recently setup a reverse proxy with the nginx addon for my home assistant server. Everything works well with the exception of the local calender integration. For whatever reason it throws an error "Could not retrieve events for calendars: " when connecting through the external URL. I also get a failed login attempt but only if I open the calender tab.

As I'm currently doing a re-wire, it's a great opportunity for me to put some metering in the house. I'm single-phase, but I plan to monitor multiple sections of the house, which are each wired for 100A independently.

I am using the teslemetry integration to dynamically adjust my charging amps to match the surplus production from my solar panels. I have an automation that checks surplus production every 2min and adjust amps only if needed.

I'm subscribed to Home Assistant Cloud, and I want better location history but integrated to Home Assistant.

I've got a non-smart washer, but after a recent power outage I noticed that it resumes the wash cycle at it's current point when power is cut then restored.

So I have my AC connected to a smart plug and I'm trying to figure out what would be the best way to go about automating it.

I would like to use device names such as "NBR-NW1 (John's AC)" which is shorthand for "North Bedroom North Wall1 (John's AC)". However, it appears as though when I ask the assistant to "turn on John's AC", it does not match it to anything.

I'm tinkering with our ventilation over-pressure function in combination with an inline fan I run when 3D printing or soldering, to get the fumes and particulates out while simultaneously not creating a massive vacuum inside. The plan is to control it with MQTT from HA to a PLC that controls the ventilation via RS-485.

I've got an extra tall living room, and without a 15' ladder there's no way I can actuate the pull down shades. I would be annoyed to have to climb up to change batteries a few times a year. What I would ideally want are some kind of window shade or blinds with a remote or HA controllable, and a little solar panel to collect the juicy rays of the sun.

It's already 25DegC in my home office.

I realized I have some old hue bulbs laying around, and they're working well enough with my Zigbee controller (no bridge), but if I decide to scale up I definitely don't want to pay the Hue premium.

I used to just update stuff when I could see an update was available. This changed dramatically when a few months ago, I updated Zigbee2mqtt to version 2 and my whole house stopped working. That marked the moment when the other inhabitants in my house decided that the home automation project had gone too far.

Starting to think about setting up my home camera surveillance system and what to avoid making poor decisions, so need to tap into community experience ... you guys :-)

I previously hacked together an Ikea sensor which worked well for the price, but was not weatherproof, and my solution caused the temperatures to be very inaccurate.

I've been running Home Assistant for three years. It's port forwarded on default port 8123 via a reverse proxy in a dedicated VM serving it over HTTPS and is accessible over ipv4 and ipv6. All user accounts have MFA enabled.

I used Home Assistant to create my very first automation today. It's really stupid simple, but I feel as though things will only get crazier from here.

I was trying to add a Matter device from my phone but it kept saying I needed to install the companion app from the Play store even though I was in the companion app (from f-droid). I've installed the Bluetooth proxy app as well but it made note difference.

Sorry if I am being a bit thick, but I have now subscribed to Nabu Casa and the remote access works great over the web, but I am confused how the companion app is meant to work. I assumed it was meant to “failover" to remote access when I left the home network. What am I missing?

My homelab is connected through an already existing wireguard network, with one server acting as a central hub for a bunch of other nodes. So all nodes can communicate to eachother by just knowing this central hub.

So I just learned that apparently Home Assistant has absolutely no user account control. My roommate has no need to access the lights, electrical outlets, etc. in my room, and has absolutely no reason to be able to see my phone's battery charge level and charger status.

I currently have an ADT system and am looking at ditching it for a HA green with zigbee adapter and doing motion sensors, door/window sensors, smoke alarms, etc over zigbee in HA. The roommate would like cameras and i would like something that doesnt require an account on a company servers that could go bankrupt or phone home. Any suggestions?

I'm using a run of the mill motion sensor in the living room that turns the lights off after a certain duration of no motion (unless the TV is on). Sometimes the lights turn off when I'm still in the room because I'm stationary.

We've been wanting to set up Music Assistant and now since we started using ProtonVPN, Apple Music is constantly blocking our account.

Is anyone aware of a sensor (preferably Zigbee, I think), that will give me an idea of when I need to change my furnace air filter?

Anyone try to build a bed occupancy sensor integrated with Home Assistant? I've looked into load sensors but all of them seem to have pretty small weight limits (low enough to where I don't think it would even support the empty bed).

I'm wondering what people here would think about Home Assistant's stock UI getting a bit of a facelift? I know you can customize to your hearts content, but I've always found stock Home Assistant to be a little hard on the eyes. Its not bad in my mind, just feels a bit dated and static.

I'm trying to remove the Hue bridge from my home network but can't seem to get Home Assistant to find the bulbs over Zigbee. Even the Hue app can't find them unless I use the "use serial number" method.

I know this probably comes up a lot and I’ve done some reading but it’s a little overwhelming so I thought I’d just post to help me get my thoughts together. I want to set up HA primarily to start using it with Frigate and give me remote access to my cameras but I might as well double down and get everything on this. I like the idea of clever houses and I’m glad there’s a good option for doing it locally with decent FOSS solution.

I make a query to my wyoming satelite instance "what is the temperature outside" and it says it cannot find any device labelled temperature in the outside area. I do the same query on my watch using the assist and no issues. I understood that they were in the same eco system. Have I missed something?

I've been looking for a zigbee temperature sensor that has a long (1-2m) probe. I can find general room temperature zigbee sensors, and WiFi devices with probes, but not what I'm looking for. Searching online just comes up with people saying I'd need to make make soemthing myself with esphome.

UPDATE: I did not find where DOODS2 or any other add on stores any info, but I did discover that you can simply create a directory in the /share/ and point to it. I created /share/doods/ and added my .onnx model and got it to work. The model needs work, but I believe it is actually my model now.

I wanted some temperature sensor that can place outside my house, it is simple and not very expensive, which directly integrates with HA would be ideal but not 100% necessary.

I see a lot of posts about people who like their Zigbee and Z-Wave products. As I'm setting up the hardware in my home, I'm using Wi-Fi products because I already have Wi-Fi. I don't see much difference in price. What is the actual benefit of setting up a separate network for home devices? Is there a reason that I should consider setting up one of these networks?

I have a routine that plays an audio file on the top of every hour and it worked great for the first few days but lately the audio has been lagging or stuttering. At first i thought it was because i was using an old chromebook in kiosk mode but my home assistant voice is doing the same thing with voice replies. Any idea what could be causing this? Home assistant is being ran as a vm on my hypervisor and the audio file in question is an mp3 saved locally in the media folder on home assistant.

I have a set of Samsung washer and dryer that can be hooked up to Samsung SmartThings. I have no interest in making a Samsung account and having my washers and dryers communicate with anything outside of my network.

Is there any way to group zones together? I would like to define zones that are not necessarily circular in shape. I can accomplish what I want by overlapping several of them, but I really want to group them together and treat them as one zone. Is this possible?

Are there any recommended best practices?

I bought several Sonoff mini4r to add some automation to my lights, and wanted to post a short review:

I have an early 2000s house and they went wild with a) the sheer number of wall switches and b) the number of 3-way switches. I want to replace a good number of them while accepting my wife's requirement that they look and function as dumb paddle switches when necessary.

Does anyone have any experience or recommendations for a physical remote control that can be used with HomeAssistant? I'm hoping to find a multi-button zigbee or wifi device that HA can recognize and allow me to configure buttons to HA automations.

When I first started setting up my home automation, I decided on Zigbee, and I very much dove in head-first. I set up dozens of Zigbee devices, and some worked a lot better than others. I have a fairly stable Zigbee network with well over 100 devices, but many of those have been replaced over time. To save others the wasted time and money, I wanted to give a short breakdown of what I've noticed across brands.

Until recently I had been using an EZVIZ DB1C doorbell. I researched before I got it, and it worked immediately when bought. Then the company started playing dirty pool. Over the next two firmware updates (WIth nothing in the notes beyond "bugfixes and imrprovements") they stripped out the ability to use a local RTSP stream then they stripped out the ability to use their Windows-only software to even re-enable any functionality. Then they jerked me around for over a month before they finally copped to what the company had done.

I've been toying with the idea to implementing HA for a couple of years.

I've been using HA for a while; having my home just "do things" for me without asking is fantastic. My lights turn on to exactly the levels I want when I enter a room, my grass and my plants get watered automatically, heating and cooling happens only when it needs to. There are lots of benefits. Plus, it's just a fun hobby.

Hi all! I have a HA server in my LAN and all my IoT devices are in a separate VLAN. In this way to insert all the devices I have to configure them all manually using MQTT commands. Since I'm fed up about this method, I've added a second NIC to the HA VM (Proxmox) that is in the IoT VLAN. When I enter the terminal I see that HA has 2 IPs, one for each network and I thought that all the Shelly (they use the same MQTT broker that uses HA, they're not configured for cloud connection and ColoT is enabled) devices would appear in HA, but...they don't. How do you think that I can troubleshoot this problem?

Hi, all. I recently received two Zooz Zen51 dry contact relays, and installed one of them in an outdoor flood light fixture with a motion sensor. I thought I'd share my thoughts on the device in case anyone else is thinking about it. Note, I'm in the US and only familiar with US electrical wiring.

I recently started using AutoBackup and every now and then, after it runs, zigbee2mqtt isn't running anymore and needs to be manually restarted. "Start on boot" and "Watchdog" are both enabled for z2m. Has anyone else experienced this?
