Hi there!

For years I have had my zigbee network functional with a ConBee2 zigbee coordinator in my home assistant box.

I put together a small browser-based tool for the Home Assistant 2026.9 release called Release Lens.

Switched from a Conbee 2 with Phoscon, to a Sonoff Dongle Max and ZHA. Bit of pain remaking the network but now everything works as before or better. Aside from the showstopper that’s the buttons NOT having anything useful! What’s the point of a button that has to drop the battery past a certain point to trigger anything? That can’t be right. Help please? :(

I have had a bunch of little issues which ultimately come down to a knowledge gap, me just not knowing enough about Home Assistant to know where to even look. I’ve solved most of my problems with persistence and searching for other people’s issues, but some issues are just not going anywhere.

I got the ZBT-2 and there is very little setup or instruction involved.

I feel the aquarium hobby is a retro hobby. Sure, the lights and filters have got much more expensive, and now rimless tanks are popular online, but the standard size tanks like the 40 breeder and the 75 gallon are the same footprint from decades past.

I used the fdroid app through droidify and when I use the companion app to add a matter device it tells me to install the app.

Is there one of either for HA? Jellyfin & the other main Arr programs are covered but there’s almost nothing aside this: https://github.com/rigerc/ha-apps-next and it’s pretty much its own and not an integration or card.

If your voice assistant is slow and you use a Wyoming stt container, check to see if it’s running on CUDA. I had mine running on the CPU, and as soon as I saw that flipped it. It’s super fast now.

I’m a big Home Assistant fan and power user. It’s the home automation platform of choice in our house and I’ve added many devices and automations, sometimes to the chagrin of Rachelle.

How do I find out what IPs to give, my IP doesnt stay the same? The local IP is hardly the one they want, it wouldnt make sense I think.

A smart thermostat was one of the first connected devices I purchased when I started building our smart home. I wanted automatic presence detection so the thermostat could set an away mode when we leave and “we’re home” mode without us having to do anything. Never mind the fact that Rachelle and I both work from home and are both homebodies. On the rare occasion that we’re both away from home, the house knows it, automatically! ;)

A few weeks ago, the Canadian wildfire haze reached Central Virginia, where I live, and we noticed it as a haziness in the air. Well, I have an AirGradient Open Air (model O-1PST) outdoor sensor and two AirGradient ONE units (model I-9PSL) indoor sensors. I’m a data-driven person, and I was instantly curious how this was showing up to the sensors in Home Assistant.

I’m looking for a Thread button or rotary encoder to control my smart lights, preferable under $15. It can be battery powered or wired. I have a border router across the house, within wifi range. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I saw an integrationfor monitoring UV exposure and tides but the only login was gmail, there was no option for any other mail to sign up to the api.

I’m looking around for DC or USB powered thermometers but I can’t seem to find any. Granted, the battery powered ones last many years, but I’m looking to keep my options open. Zigbee devices are preferable. Anyone know?

Hi All, I cannot keep the connection stable to my pi. I put HAOS on a pi5 and I managed to get logged in on the app eventually and everytime I leave and come back it cannot reconnect.

My nightstand lights are connected to a surge protector plugged into a Zigbee smart plug plugged into a dumb wall outlet controlled by a single dumb wall switch.

I bought 2 MYGGSPRAY. I’ve been using them for about 3 months now. They show up as 100% on Home Assistant but is it showing the wrong numbers or is it just sipping the battery? How about your experience?

I recently had to replace an old Zigbee bulb that had stopped working properly. How do you handle this? Do you manually replace all instances of this device in all automations, scenes, etc.? Or is there a magic button I am not aware of that makes this easier? At least I could use Spook to let me know which places I need to look at, but especially for scenes it is a pain because you need to reconfigure the settings for the device manually.

So. I have a nice HA system setup at home, based on a VM with lots of sensors and offline control. All good.

I now have everything migrated from my Nortek HUSBZB-1 combo stick to the ZBT-2 and ZWA-2 antennas. The difference is night and day, both networks are much more responsive and stable. I have roughly 20 z-wave devices and 30 or so zigbee devices, if that helps.

Rachelle and I bought our house in Richmond in late 2022 and moved in early 2023. The ULTRALOQ U-Bolt Pro Z-Wave Smart Lock was the very first smart device I installed after setting up Home Assistant.

Is this a good start? I have a few items connected to a philips hue bridge pro atthe moment. I want to expand to sensors for doors, windows, leaks and move my solar dashboard to HA.

I’m looking to add Thread/Matter to my existing setup (Pi4 running HA, Sonoff Zigbee controller/Zigbee2MQTT, Zooz Z-wave controller) in order to try out Ikea’s new Matter switches. I have been doing a little bit of reading on Thread and Matter but I’m not sure which controller/hub would be best with my current setup.

Am I looking for a standard, accessible API, commitment standards to access?

So, we have an exhaust fan at the roof and it doubles as a kitchen hood fan. The controls used to be on the hood, similar on what you’d have on a cheap desk fan with buttons 1-3 and only one can be pressed at a time. Some time ago a plastic broke from the mechanism and it allowed two buttons to be pressed at the same time and it fried the transformer by connecting two of the different voltage outputs together. I just bypassed the transformer and there’s now just a single on-off switch, so the fan is either off or at full blast.

Does anyone have experience integrating a Bryant mini-split Heat Pump? …. It’s made by Carrier so Carrier heat pump may be similar.

I really like the new Maintenance Dashboard. Trying to track batteries was one of the first things I did with my own dashboard, with automation. This seems like a small thing but an automatically generated dashboard to track batteries is so useful, especially for new people. Whoever worked on that: well done!

I have nine Aqara window sensors I use to turn thermostats on/off. They’ve been behaving erratically for the past few weeks, so yesterday I checked the battery status on one of them (can’t remember which one) - steadily declining from >80% to around 35% now. Even showed the graph to my wife. So I bought ten new batteries - they came today. Earlier today I updated HA Core and restarted. Now, all my Aqara window sensor batteries read 100% - even for the entire last month! All of them! Can the Core update have messed with historical readings?

Did anyone here get one of those Trmnl dashboards? I’ve been wanting to build an e-ink dashboard for years but it keeps not happening, so I ordered a Trmnl X as soon as I read about it.

Does anyone know if the ARC6 and Arc8 rainbird irrigation controllers work with home assistant? The Integration mentions that it works via the LNK Wifi module which is an add on module for older devices. The ARC6 and ARC8 have wifi built in and use the same phone app. It sounds like Rainbird did a firmware update to add a bunch of cloud stuff and changed the API, there was recently a fix for the new firmware but I’m still not sure if I buy an ARC6 or ARC8 today if it will work with HA.

My home assistant setup is super simple: pre-configured Home Assistant Green box, Zigbee dongle and some assorted Zigbee devices scattered around my home. I have the Home Assistant app on my phone to see the Dashboard while I’m at home, but since I never configured the box to be accessible from outside of my network, I obviously can’t see the Dashboard if I’m not at home. Very basic stuff so far.

One automation for each battery was getting crazy. A temperature sensor in most rooms, motion detectors and a handful of door/window sensors. This blueprint creates an automation that manages all batteries dynamically. Really is amazing.

After a power outage this weekend, when HASS came back up I lost all automations related to my Sonoff Orb 4-Way smart switch, and one of my GE 800 Z-Wave switches no longer responds, though it still works manually pressing the switch.

I finally found out you can use the Android Debug Bridge integration to play specific YouTube videos on Smarttube (adfree youtube app)!

I was having zigbee device dropping issues and I’ve been looking at the zbt-2. I was hesitating due to the price. I went to take another search this evening and there’s one listed at a huge discount. I’m not going to post the link here as I’m unsure of the rules, but it’s easy to find on Amazon.ca.

I just got an Airthings Radon monitor, and the integration with HA went smoothly. As a starting dashboard I have a simple card displaying sensor values.

Scenario: I have an automation called John’s AC. John’s AC has four separate triggers. Max, minimum lower temperature, lower temperature, upper temperature, and max upper temperature. If the room temperature is below max lower temperature or lower temperature and it warms up to either of those two triggers, the automation gets triggered and creates a log event.

I’m thinking about getting started using Docker and an older Raspberry Pi. I’m already hosting a grafana service on it, so It can’t be fully dedicated to ha. So curious what everyone is using.

I’m running my own HA locally, in my house, but I would like to be able to access it also when I’m not home. So I’ve put it on my Zerotier One VPN, which works fine. Except for two things:

Im falling down a hole here. Long story still long, but it started when got a Tuya remote and trying to integrate it. Im currently using the plain old Zigbee Home Automation (ZHA). The new remote got recognized fine, I could see button presses in events but I didnt know hot to use those to trigger events (nothing shows up when try to create an automation).

So I’ve seen all kinds of dashboards depicting all sorts of informations and functions to control ones home and I was wondering, what things you have depicted on yours which turned out to be really useful esp. for other family members. I would like to keep mine as small and simple as possible. So far I have planned to show the following:

I mostly understand the dilemma, but I want to see if someone has better success with their AI assistant. I use the Ollama integration and set up a conversation model. However, the default Home Assistant AI knows to use the home forecast entity whenever I ask about the weather. Whether I also set up an AI task model, toggle “control Home Assistant” on or off, or toggle “perform local commands” on or off - the Ollama models do not reference the home forecast the way the default Home Assistant can. I thought maybe keeping default commands on would enable this ability while answering all other queries with the Ollama LLM. I just want a smarter AI. Any suggestions?

Little did I know when I found a HomeKit lightbulb in the clearance bin at my grocery store for $3 what it would lead to. Here I am, though, adding to and re-jiggering my smart home set up. It’s nothing earth-shattering, but it was fun, and I thought I’d share what I found out in case it’s news to other folks. It started when I bought a handful of new Sonoff devices…

Maybe not the correct place but I know a lot of folks use NFC tags to trigger automation.

I have a few sneaky tiptoeing but loveable miscreants as part of my family and I would like to keep them out of my office. I’m sure some of you can relate.
