Wait, but aren’t Taiwanese people actually ethnically Han Chinese? There are some descendants of the island’s original inhabitants but most people’s ancestors are originally from mainland China. I’ve never heard anyone deny that, even strong supporters of Chinese independence. Maybe I’m missing something, or maybe “ethnically” is the wrong word here?

In either case, the intended meaning seems clear: critiquing the tankie tendency to regard people living in Taiwan as rightfully just an extension of mainlanders’ will (and, specifically, the will of the mainlanders’ central party apparatus)
Unfortunately, it rarely comes from a place of “Power imbalances create abuse, and the US currently has a power imbalance wrt the rest of the world”, but long, rambling screeds about ‘labor aristocracy’ and how the proletariat in the US isn’t real and American minorities deserve to die anyway for inhabiting The Great Satan(tm).
