I agree, but I don’t know what CBS could create that would fit. Clearly the podcast format works well, but you don’t need CBS for that.

Byron Allen is paying for the timeslot, similar to an infomercial or a home shopping slot. And he gets to own/sell the ad revenue for that space.
CBS was making more money from selling Colbert ad space then they will by selling it to Allen. They just didn’t like Colbert’s politics/point of view.
I do wonder if affiliates have the option of running their own programming in the slot instead.
