The “Spanish” flu was from Kansas.
Interesting! To be honest, I never really thought that much about why it was named what it was. For those who are also curious, but perhaps not enough to look it up, the accepted answer is that the belligerents of WW1 were actively and enthusiastically engaged in wartime censorship and propaganda by the time the disease was starting to appear. Fearful of anything that might upset continued appetite for war, the primary belligerents squashed any reporting of a nascent epidemic. Spain, a neutral country, had no such incentive to keep things under wraps, and so was one of the first countries to start ringing alarm bells. Thus, Spanish Flu.
For what it’s worth though, there appears to be some question regarding the Kansas original as well.
Wild! Imagine if it happened nowadays, discovering a new disease and announcing it later to avoid bad publicity.
“The getting laid disease? The one you get from having too much fun? Get real, that’s got to be from somewhere else.”
It’s like the turkish toilets in france, french in denmark, danish in Norway.
Fun fact: You know that pastry everybody calls a ‘Danish’? In Denmark we call those ‘Vienna bread’.
Vinerbröd in Swedish!
Yeah, but that makes perfect sense. I’m no expert, but I’m pretty sure Swedes are legally prohibited from crediting Denmark with anything (positive) and visa versa.
