1888: Bandit’s Roost. This alley, known as Bandit’s Roost, at 591⁄2 Mulberry Street, had a reputation for being one of the most dangerous and crime-ridden places in New York.

I seem to remember something about some of the people in the photo belonging to the Dead Rabbits gang, of which the movie Gangs Of New York featured. Unverified though.


That man has a lot of confidence in that railing


They are better dressed than most modern Americans will be in their lifetimes.

I’m comfortable, which to me is the best kind of outfit.
