Explanation: Landsknecht were German mercenary troops of the 15th-17th centuries who garnered a reputation both as formidable warriors, and as ill-disciplined brutes who ravaged the land. Their dual reputation sprung from the same source - they were paid well and regularly, in contrast to many troops of the era, making them both highly motivated, but also motivated by profit, not any notion of service or legal necessity, making their conduct poor even by the low standards of the period.
