that is what i was thinking every time i saw people call for Cascadia.
Like … the USA would simply invade and make NorCal/Oregon/Washington into Guam 2.0.
But here’s the thing: There’s no US without the states. Presumably any secession scenario would involve taking away the states in question’s share of the US military (and, of course, nukes) with them. That’s what happened in the American Civil War, and why it’s the American Civil War and not “America invaded, the end.” The North’s demographic and logistical advantages meant that its victory with inevitable, but that inevitability has nothing to do with which side had the federal government on its side. America is one situation where the whole is equal to the sum of its parts.
“The States” is not a real thing. It is a convience we use to talk about all this infrastructure human beings have created to mind their business when ruled by people with honor.
Those days are gone.
Trump will disband the states and make the US into ~300 corporate counties controlled by the richest ally he has within the divisions. Because Trump doesn’t like anyone but him winning elections.
And if the people don’t sit down and general strike and take away the ATM that the labors of its citizens have become for Trump then civil war will happen, again.
But I stand secure in saying “The States” are a figment of our collective imaginations.
I promise that was never a thing.
Project Wingman reference, Project Wingman reference!
Monarch would be proud. Glory to Cascadia!
