Tbf, whenever there’s a private tool like graphene, tor, tails, whonix, mullvad, matrix, jabber, pgp, etc?
Yes, criminals will use it, because of course they don’t want to get caught for crimes just as much as we don’t want to be tracked in general (maybe more, because crimes lol).
But also, criminals use roads, trains, busses, the USPS and private mail carriers, normal phones including SMS and calls, facetime, email, they drink water and eat food, on and on.
“Criminals use it” is a fucking stupid reason to ban anything, in fact it’s a good reason we should adopt it too in terms of privacy, because if it works for them doing way worse than I am, then it ought to work just fine for me too. Besides over half of those criminals are just using WHM or whatever is the go to these days, define “criminals.”

this narrative that criminals use this OS, is exactly the excuse they’ll be looking for, the privacy community don’t have the high ground in this reality that we live in, considering past events (e.g. chat control) this content does more harm than good. (but some YouTuber has to get their Ad revenue)

I just checked and I apparently have 137 apps on my phone. I think most of that though is just reading about some FOSS app, installing it to try it out and then just forgetting. I seem to have 4 different maps apps for example lol

What is all this for criminals BS. Graphene is one of the best ROMs out there if your willing to use Google hardware. Pretty much just works and without the normal bloat.

Title and thumbnail aside, the video was a positive review of GOS and was made with help from a GOS team member. I probably should have added the extra context before it got downvoted away 😄
The articles didn’t call it that, Spanish authorities did. GOS claims this was a “state-sponsored attack” but couldn’t provide any evidence of such a thing.

I don’t think it is bad. However, Linus is going to quickly discover why people avoid Graphene OS. (The devs and community are toxic as hell)
It’s because we all know he both steals content and fakes reviews. He lost our trust. He can make one good video but it doesn’t make up for his entire history.
I even don’t care about trust or whatever drama of the day is going on with LTT. I’m just sick beyond any measure of all that clickbait shit.
His channel is the worst for it. I know clickbait is how you game the algo to try and make it, but it’s just so horrible, every title is just hot garbage. His images also are the worst.
Yeah, I have his channels blocked on freetube and pipepipe. Tech related searches has been better for it without his channels dominating results.
His channel feel like watching an infomercial too with all the constant plugs compared to other channels. Its like for people who like TV infomercials.

In an era of chat control getting pushed and governments pushing to require verification for sites why don’t people appreciate Linus helping to give the impression that GrapheneOS is the criminals OS of choice?
That imagery hadn’t even occured to me with me just seeing at a privacy OS. How helpful of him to use his large channel so that is the impression first set forth when he could have presented any other way and still done his dumb clickbait and stupid face.
The idea the Graphene devs are toxic doesn’t hold up to scrutiny. People just don’t respond well to their critiques and think a media dogpile will be less energy.
