In The Divine Comedy, an exploration of heaven and hell is undertaken as a metaphorical and dramatic journey, discussing condemnation, punishment, and salvation. … however, the core of the story is Dante himself, the author as a self-insert, getting to go and visit heaven and hell and hang with all his favorite (historical) characters and see all his least favorite (historical) characters tortured for eternity.
