BANGKOK, Aug 7 (Reuters) - Thailand's Constitutional Court on Wednesday ordered the dissolution of the anti-establishment opposition party Move Forward, ruling its campaign to amend a law that protects the monarchy from criticism risked undermining the democratic system. The disbanding of Move Forward, which won most seats in the 2023 election, is the latest setback for Thailand's major political parties, which are embroiled in a two-decade battle for power against a nexus of influential conservatives, old money families and the royalist military.

They are freaking crazy. This court doesn't understand "democracy" if they think advocating for a law change is anti-democratic.
They understand democracy alright. They just don't like it. They're a part of a repressive system that does anything in its power to prevent the will of the Thai people from being enacted.
Shitty monarchs risk undermining system. Criticism makes it less likely for them to be shitty.
Glad i could clear that up for all the anti-democracy/pro-fascist folks out there.
Not only did they ban it, but they also barred its leaders from running in elections for 10 years: https://lemmy.ca/post/26497747.

My partner is a refugee from Thailand. She was imprisoned for criticizing the monarchy online. I don't know if the Move Forward party is the one she supports or adjacent and I'm not going to wake her to ask (today is her day off and she deserves to sleep in). This law, lèse-majesté, is bullshit.
