Would you be ok with a limited spooky season if it came with a ban (enforced by the death penalty, no trial), on Xmas music outside of a 36 hour window starting at noon on Xmas eve?
Yes. In fact, I would give them 2 week pre-christmas for Christmas music if I can have 2 weeks of true spooky season.
And that’s as a former retail worker that has been driven to the point of insanity by Mariah Carey.
I finally got a 12 foot skeleton but our stupid HOA doesn’t allow Halloween decorations before 10/1. I think I need a festive fall outfit for it so I can say it’s not Halloween, it’s just seasonal.
You should try to play politics with your HOA so you can dismantle it form the inside.
Side note to anyone reading this, don’t fucking buy a house with an HOA
Fun fact: lots of city and county governments either mandate or highly encourage HOAs for new subdivision developments. This is mostly because they love abdicating their responsibility to maintain infrastructure for low-density parcels that will never generate enough tax revenue to pay for it, but in some cases could also be for the traditional reason HOAs exist (to facilitate racism and classism).
In other words, most homebuyers will essentially be forced into an HOA simply because most homes are encumbered by them.
Maybe that will help the housing market crash? Idk I’m not an economist
What would help is zoning reform to increase density, both so that more housing would be allowed to exist in the places people want it, and so that the infrastructure serving it would be efficient enough for those local governments to remain financially solvent.
But I don’t wanna live in a densely populated area! I wanna live in a predominantly white suburb built on top of a large deforested area with an enormous grass lawn I will never use!

A crash in home prices may motivate folks to go door to door to gather the votes needed to dissolve their HOA and raise their property values by the amount that the HOA reduces them.
The reduction isn’t dramatic today, because while everyone hates HOAs few neighborhoods have disovled their HOA.
But it could gain ground rapidly, with the folks in neighborhoods that don’t dissolve their HOAs stuck with properties that sell for substantially less money.
Hard no. My day job is in government and I cannot take one more meeting in my life. I’ve attended some of the HOA meetings and they were actually worse than pretty much every meeting I have at work, because they last forever and the stakes are so stupid.

My sample size of this is very small but most the people I know that go hard decorating for Halloween are the same people putting up Christmas decorations in early November.

The holiday about spooky things and kids dressing up and getting candy is not religiously exclusionary no. Christmas’ origins were not, either, but we’re not talking about the origins of these holidays, we’re discussing them in their current form, so go be a pedant on some other thread. Anyway I’m Jewish and have been my whole life so the three months of Christmas in America made me feel extremely isolated and excluded as a kid, but I actually got to participate in Halloween. You can try and invalidate the experience of millions of non-christian non-white Americans but that doesn’t make you quirky and unique, either. No one is thinking “wow this dude is so smart!” for pointing out the capitalist undertone that’s shared by literally every holiday in western society. Now do kindly fuck off.
