For years now, executives at companies that are pouring hundreds of billions of dollars a year into developing various artificial intelligence tools have insisted that the technology will ultimately mean people will spend less of their time working.

I’ve been hearing about these for a few years now. Huge if they work out at a large scale.

A new Amazon data center is set to become the single largest source of environmental pollution in the U.S., according to a New York Times report on August 8. The tech giant — which already operates the most data centers worldwide — is reportedly building a natural gas power plant in Pecos County, Texas, to power its new data center at the same site. According to project permits, the plant would generate up to 7.65 gigawatts of power using 35 natural gas turbines. The new plant — which burns natural gas to generate electricity — has been authorized to release 33 million tons of CO₂ annually, more planet-warming gases than any other power plant in the country, says the NY Times report.

Who would’ve thought a country like North Korea would use AI tools that could ‘potentially’ be used for illicit purposes?

The research team’s conclusion was blunt: “No tested version of ChatGPT can reliably generate appropriate responses to psychotic content.”

why is there even a debate that ai “art” is better? If you want ai to generate you an image of mickey mouse for an example, ai has to analise an image of mickey mouse and then spit it out. but before any of that ever happens somebody has to make that image first, and how do they do that? BY DRAWING IT!!! their arguement that “ai art is better” makes just as much sense as trump’s fee on wildfire smoke from canada (which it doesnt)
