Selfhosting

I have a raspberry pi 4 connected to the TV that I want to use for a couple different apps (jellyfin client, YouTube, display foundry battle maps) and am looking for a launcher application that could switch between these. Ideally it could be controlled by HDMI CEC (or whatever it's called). Does anyone have suggestions for this?

So I currently have a 1tb drive running all of my containers for my home server. I'm trying to finalize the process of transitioning from corporate cloud storage to my own personal cloud. I have a new 12 TB drive to hold all my files.

Current setup is PMS running on a Synology 5-bay, and another PMS running on a Shield Pro. The NAS server is primarily used for remote streaming, while the Shield serves to my home LAN (AppleTVs mainly).

I'm trying to self host my portfolio on an old laptop running Ubuntu server. I've successfully set up docker and nginx. I got a DNS subdomain from freedns.afraid.org.

Hey guys i have been using Navidrome to stream my music from my server and its been amazing. I primarily use YT Music because of discoverability so I have all of my "primary" playlists (about 8 of them really, but supporting a somewhat arbitrary limit would be nice) in YouTube.

Setting up a personal site on local hardware has been on my bucket list for along time. I finally bit he bullet and got a basic website running with apache on a Ubuntu based linux distro. I bought a domain name, linked it up to my l ip got SSL via lets encrypt for https and added some header rules until security headers and Mozilla observatory gave it a perfect score.

So, I'm trying to get pangolin up and running.

So I am for the most part a lurker and a hobbyist. I've always been a bit of a techie, but over time decided I wanted to be more anti-consumption and such.

This makes the archive unreadable without the software and its database, which defeats the point of long-term archival storage.

Hello, I am looking for a alternative to HA Proxy, as the GUI options for it, are both third-party and not very good looking, also I just want to know about the alternatives, what I am looking in a high availability setup is the ability to detect if a server is offline, and route to other servers, as well as other HA goodies.

Anyone have a recommendation for something that can track shipments, or at least shipping information? Additional inventory features would also be needed.

So I've been googling to find out what to buy for a jellyfin/game server and the problem is almost all posts are about buying hardware in the US or EU. I checked the second hand market and it SUCKS around here, like 10 year old+ CPUs being sold as 'intel i7' for stupid prices.

So, I currently have a Netgear ReadyNAS 314 with 1 SSD, 3 HDDs, Intel Atom D2701 and 4GB RAM, running Debian 12, and since getting it I've been getting more into self hosting. What I have now is primarily too weak in the CPU and RAM department, but it could also use more HDDs. I'm aiming for 5-6 3.5 HDDs, 1 Nvme, 1 2.5" SSD.

My VPS provider is running a promotion where I can get up to 5 additional public IPv4 addresses for a one-time cost of $25 each. I have always only used a single public IP address per VPS. Would there be any advantage of having additional public IP addresses?

I encountered something I don't quite understand, and I was hoping someone could enlighten me.

I have been using an old PC as NAS and running docker containers (Immich, Nextcloud, paperless-ngx etc.). I got 5 3.5" HDD disks and a Nvme. Even on idle, I am consuming 50-60w. A friend of mine is selling a Qnap NAS which is a dedicated machine and probably consumes less power, although I don't know if it's worth it.

How do you backup important things you store in selfhosted clouds?

I find myself often having to transfer a random files from another person's device to mine. Existing file sharing solutions aren't exactly ideal because they either require me to remember a very long URL (file shares), or requiring me to log in on others' device (cloud). I'm wondering if there's a program where anyone can upload files, but can only be viewed and downloaded from the server by authenticated users. I understand it's not wise to accept files from unauthenticated users, but it would be so damn convenient. If there isn't one, I suppose that would be my next project.

Another Lemmy thread led me to thinking about getting a cheap VPS for my homelab. I'm double-NATted by my ISP, so I can't do traditional port forwarding. I'd like to get a cheap VPS, install Tailscale on it, and access my homelab from anywhere without having to have Tailscale on every device I use (at work where I can't install it, for example).

Hello everyone, I'm building a new server for the house, it will act as a NAS for everyone and host a few services like paperless, immich, baikal, jellyfin, syncthing probably navidrone, etc. The main reason I'm building a new one is that my current one is a HP prebuilt with a 3rd gen i5 and 8GB ram that is slowly beating the bucket, my 4TB HDD is completely full and there's no more sata ports nor space in the case.

Hi, Within our district, we have multiple autonomous group with their own activities. We all agree it's nice and okay for group members to join activities in other groups. Consensus about information sharing is tough. All have their own habits and technical (IT) skills are scarce. The idea now is to have one from each group to arrange the communication between the groups, and that one distribute the event's in their group. I think it's a lot of work and causes delay's etc.

Hello. I'm looking for a software to save web pages from my computer and phone and read them later in my ereader device that has wifi connection and a rudimentary browser. Ideally, the software would turn the web pages into some sort of reader view mode to make them more fluid for the ereader, but that's not necessary. I want something as simple as possible that I can host locally on a raspberry pi-like device. I don't need long term archival or fancy features. Do you have any recommendations? I believe you're the best people to know a nice tool for that job.

Hi, got Proxmox installed. Now want to install some VMs but would like to use a simple setup rather than painfully going trough an install. I've read I could accomplish this via ansible. Are there ready playbooks you can hack? Presumably I would need to have Proxmox understand playbooks?

I'm looking for a knowledge management system, or at least I think I am. Scrolling around in a notepad ++ of more than 300k lines gets to be a chore. Yeah, I document just about everything I do. They say that we never really forget anything, and that it's our faulty recall system. Well, my recall system is shit. While Notepad++ does allow searching, I guess I'm looking for something a bit more elegant.

So currently I am running a 4 bay Synology DS423+. I’ve upgraded it to have 32gb ram and a 10g network port. I am looking to upgrade to something with more bays like 12+. I was looking at the DS2422+ since it is 12 bays and I could transfer my ram from my current synology to it.

I'm looking for a compact NAS to back up events from my video surveillance system. Two drive bays is enough, maybe four at most. They can be 2.5" or 3.5", SATA or SAS, preferably populated with mechanical drives but even with reliable SSDs. It doesn't need to handle more than a few GB per day of throughput and 16TB of total storage would be more than enough so it doesn't need to support even more massive drives. I don't care if it's complete product like a Synology or something built from scratch using an SBC and adapters; all I need is RAID 1 and an SMB/CIFS file share, though I would like to keep costs low. My house is wired for Ethernet so wifi would just be a bonus but it might help to hide the device somewhere a burglar isn't likely to see it like they will the NVR in my server rack. Also, a GNU/Linux-based OS is obviously mandatory or else I wouldn't be on Lemmy.

There are probably some of us still sitting on free ESXi hosts, but as I've gotten off mine to Proxmox ive been pretty pleased so far. Leave ESXi, it was a great way to learn but Proxmox is more better.
